The mood was upbeat with excitement in the air as a small group of junior linksters took to the driving range Tuesday to open Sulphur Springs Country Club’s golf camp.
The camp, the second on the year, had less than 10 in attendance after an earlier camp drew 45 participants. The camp is held 9-11 a.m. through Friday.

Toby Flippin, SSCC golf professional said, “This week we had kids in other camps and involved in church activities. But we still had a small group. I kind of like working with less kids, you have more time for individual attention.”
Flippin said, “The campers are doing great overall. Tuesday went over iron play and Wednesday we will cover fairway woods and drivers. Thursday will be for chipping and putting.”
“Friday will get to take the kids on the course to play a few holes,” Flippin said. “All of the kids arevery excited to get to play. They are always happy on driver day.”
Campbell Smith, 12-year-old camper was excited to be in camp. Smith said, “I like golf, I think it is one of my favorite sports along with bowling and fishing.”
Journey Vail said, “I like it, this is my second year to go to golf camp. It is pretty fun.”
Some of the other camp participants said they enjoying  hitting the driver and were looking forward the to rest of the camp.
Flippin said the campers took instruction well and were eager to learn more about the game and make improvements.
