COMO — The summer fitness workouts for Como-Pickton athletes ended today after a six-week run with Charles Swann, athletic director, pleased with the results.

Swann, entering his 40th year as a coach and educator, said C-P athletes put in some good work.
“We had a pretty good turnout, 15-20 boys and 8-10 girls most days,” Swann said. “I’d like to have more up here working out. I’d like to have all the kids involved in athletics, but I know some of them have to work.”
Swann said, “The way competition is these days, their are no off-seasons. Everybody has to train year around to be able to compete.”
The coach said the fitness program ended, but athletes will find the weight room open if they want to work out on their ownbefore the start of grid workouts on Aug. 7.
“I know I weight program is working, I can see the results,” Swann said. “I see kids who have increased their weight totals 20-25 pounds. When football starts we see who has been working out. You can tell. But our job is to get them all ready. We are expecting about 60 players out for football.”
